Drop the books and hit the beach

Kalamazoo College has a unique holiday called DoGL. It stands for Day of Gracious Living, but most people just refer to it as the best day of spring quarter. It is simply a day off from classes and usually sports practices too. What makes it even better is that K gets charter buses and buses people to and from Lake Michigan throughout the day. Overall, DoGL is just a very relaxing and fun day for the students at K.

How I chose Kalamazoo College

Life is full of choices. We choose what to wear every day. We choose what to eat every day. We also choose things like how to spend our free time. We make these choices every day, but there are also choices that we only make once, like where to go for college. For many, this is a very tough decision, and it’s a decision that prospective students are making all over the country right now because decision-day, May 1, is next Tuesday. You have to consider so many things: What will school be like? What will the people be like? What will it be like to live there? What organizations will be there? The questions are seemingly endless, and many of the answers are not found until after the decision is made. I can’t give you a formula for making this extremely difficult decision, but I can tell you how I chose.

Bump, Set, Spike

As a young child, you grow up playing a multitude of games and sports. As time goes on, certain games or sports are weeded out and others made favorite until you only participate in a few activities. For me, I loved playing soccer, football, basketball, and volleyball. Soccer was my favorite, and so I chose to pursue it the most. It’s been my favorite sport since I was four years old. I was always too small and skinny for football, so I never ended up doing that. I was never tall enough to play basketball, either. However, volleyball still remained one of my favorite games all the way through high school. Gym class was the best when we played volleyball. Sadly, once I got to college, I didn’t think I would be able to really play ever again. However, life got so much more fun when I realized there was an intramural volleyball league.

Finals approaching

Often some of the most stressful times for high school students are when exams come around. Whether they are easy or hard, exams are dreaded by seemingly everyone. Once one graduates, a great feeling of freedom is reached. Then it all starts again. This time, it is harder. College exams are stressful times when some fun activities have to be given up to create time to study. It is also at this time, for many classes, that term papers are due. Even though term papers are usually assigned at the beginning of the quarter, many students put them off until the last few weeks of the quarter, when final exams start to roll around. The combination of an always increasing workload at the end of the quarter plus final exams allows students less free time because they are studying more than usual.
